Almost 80% of Yellowstone national park is forested. In severe drout lightning caused fires are common. In summers like the on in 1988, thousands of acers may burn, even if fires are fought. Many people do no like large forest fires because, they can disrupt vacations, change the look of the park, and even spread outside the park and burn down homes, but the Yellowstone ecosystem needs fire to be healthy.
