Deborah Samson was an indentured servant for seven year. She wished that she could be a soldier. When she turned into a young women she was granted her independence. She wanted to be a soldier so bad that she disguised herself as a man. She had to walk forty miles to sign up. She deepened her voice and changed her name to Robert Shurliff which was the name of her brother that died long before. They beleived that she was a boy from working on her farm. Over the next year she kept her secret well hidden. In 1782 she lie on the ground bleeding out from a bullet wound. Her fellow soldiers to her to a medic station immediatley. The docter was going to have to take the bullet out but she said she would do it because the docter might find out that she’s a women. She was going to have to dig out the bullet with a knife.
